No Room for Fear Mongering

During a pandemic all those things that make us uniquely human rise to the surface, the good and the bad.

Building on my previous thoughts about leading through the pandemic, and the only way to do that successfully, is through love. I want to suggest another concept to you all. During a pandemic all those things that make us uniquely human rise to the surface, the good and the bad.

An example of the bad is action of hatred, yes ‘action of hatred’. I am convinced, now more than ever, that hatred and hating are not the opposite of love as many say, the opposite of love is fear, not hatred. Hate is just a symptom of fear; fear of the unknown, fear of the known, fear of fear, as well as fear of the other (whoever the other may be).

So, then we are left with the condition, during a pandemic, to look at ourselves before responding to all of the news about this or that during the events of the day and choose a response of love. Choose a response of love and not a knee jerk reaction to fear culminating in an act of hatred. Let us, all of us—as humans—promote species solidarity, as in the human species. The only way through a pandemic is with love and together as one species.
